What is a High Visibility Vest?
High visibility vests are vests that are almost always black with a bright orange or yellow trim. They’re usually made from a highly reflective fabric that allows them to be seen from long distances. These vests have been around for decades and have been used in many different industries. Construction workers, utility repair technicians, and police officers are among the most frequent users of high-visibility vests. Construction workers need to be visible to other workers, vehicles, and the public. This is especially important when working outside in the dark or at night when there’s not enough light to see the dangers of your surroundings. Utility repair technicians work in the home or outside on residential properties. If they need to work outside at night or in dimly lit areas they’ll benefit from wearing a high-visibility vest. Police officers may be the most frequent users of high-visibility vests. This is especially true in areas that are known for more dangerous activities like crime. Police officers also need to be visible at traffic lights so they can instantly get the attention of any cars or other vehicles.
Types of High-Visibility Vests
– Reflective – These vests are almost always black with highly reflective fabric. They’re used mostly by utility repair technicians and construction workers. These vests have a logo embroidered on the front or back so you can easily be seen from a distance.
– Translucent – These vests are almost always white or high-visibility yellow. They allow the wearer to blend in with their surroundings a little better without being too bright or reflective. These vests are best for areas that may be a little safer but still need to be seen from a distance.
– Polyester – These vests are almost always Blue or Pink. They’re usually extremely affordable while still being highly visible. These vests can be worn in both hot and cold weather conditions. They don’t have a lot of pockets so be careful if you need to carry anything around.
How to Wear a High-Visibility Vest
– Throw the vest over your shoulders in the front. Make sure the front of the vest is hanging down near your waist so it’s visible from the sides.
– Pull the drawstrings out front to tighten the vest around your waist.
– Put your hands in the front pockets of the vest. Make sure your fingers are covered by the pockets so they’re not exposed. This will keep them out of the way of the pockets and make them less likely to be cut.
– Pull the drawstrings at the back of the vest closed so they’re hidden behind the back pockets. This will make them less likely to be seen by the public while still giving you easy access to your hands.
